Mayans Almehen Week
THE VIBE
Thanks for accepting our invite to join us for a very special week of “low key Mayans”! As you know, Ambergris Caye is such a unique and special place-already easy to fall in love with- which brings back so many of our Mayans friends year after year to our “big event”. And we love that January/February has grown into such a successful festival that has been bringing most of you down for years and that it continues to grow and bring more fun folks with every installment! …but, there is still so much about our island that can’t be done with the large crowds and congestion of the high season, and that’s why we want to immerse you in more of our local’s vibe.
One of the reasons we fell in love with San Pedro and bought our home there is because of the local’s scene and the close community of our ex-pat friends and Belizean friends that make our island so unique and special. Places, events, and people that you won’t get to see much during high season because of how busy the island and businesses are. Special “off the beaten path” activities that we as the locals do when the tourists aren’t flooding in. That is the reason we’re putting together this spin-off week and hoping to share it with all of you-as we truly feel you’re going to fall even deeper in love with our Heaven on Earth than you’ve already become!
We are limiting this week to only the rooms available at Sunbreeze Hotel and Sunbreeze Suites, and the size of the group to around 80 people. As in the early days of MOTM, this was about the perfect number where we were still able to do lots of dinners as one group, excursions and activities that can’t handle the larger crowds, and of course music at some of the venues that just couldn’t handle us as we grew. We’re also planning to do more water/catamaran days on this week so you can truly feel the slower pace of the island when it’s not so crowded in high season. The bars are mostly full of locals and ex-pats. Very few tourists this time of year. Many of the restaurants are just re-opening from what we call “dead” season (September-October where many of the business on island close to do repairs and let their employees go home to visit family). Just about all of our island friends are coming off of a long slow-season and gearing back up to prepare for the coming rush…but they still have some time to hang out and enjoy the island and our group. We’ll take a pontoon boat trip out to “sunset beach” which makes Secret Beach look like Disney World. We take a catamaran trip out to the sandbar and just hang out in the middle of the ocean all day. We’ll visit the slow vibes of some more un-frequented venues and there’s also an organized trip up to Tranquility Bay. All included! There are lots of parties and events already going on around the island as the part-timers and snowbirds return and the locals start getting back into the groove, and it’s a MUCH slower pace than you’re used to on week’s 1 and 2. There’s still plenty of fun to be had and our group will be bringing the party at every venue we patronize, so please accept our invitation to go beyond the San Pedro you know and let us immerse you in our local culture…who knows? You might even decide to retire here!
THE MUSIC
Though Mike Nash (and a couple of friends) will be playing a few shows during the week, the music is less the focus of “Almehen Week”. We’re concentrating more on the vacation and laid back vibe of our island paradise as opposed to music events every day and night as with the big event. You will definitely be immersing deeper into the vacation vibe with just enough scheduled music, activities, and group dinners to keep you from falling asleep; but lots of open “hang out” time to feel more like a local. We know that the music is what brought us all together in the first place, so rest assured, there will be enough to satisfy your craving…maybe even a few surprises on the way!
